Privacy Policy

This policy covers taaldus.com. Most of this site (the de/het quiz, verb quiz, and the free daily guest BIB speaking sample) works without any account and without collecting any personal data; your progress there is stored only in your own browser and never sent to us in a way that identifies you.

This policy specifically describes the BIB speaking practice tool, which requires creating a free account.

Guest BIB practice (no account)

The free daily guest speaking-practice sample doesn't require an account and doesn't collect any personal data. When you submit answers there, we log, anonymously:

  • Which of that day's questions you answered and whether each was marked pass/needs-work.
  • A random identifier generated in your browser for that one sitting: it isn't linked to you, your device, your IP address, or any account, and nothing lets us connect it back to you afterward.

We don't store your IP address or the literal text of your guest answers against this log. This is purely for understanding how the sample is used. It's a transparency note, not something we need your consent for, since none of it is personal data.

What we collect

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Your email address and a password: your password itself is handled entirely by our authentication provider (Supabase Auth) using its own secure hashing; we never see or store the plain password ourselves.
  • The date and time you log in.
  • A small profile record: your interface language, a couple of display preferences, and the date you accepted this policy.

When you use BIB speaking practice, we additionally collect:

  • The written answers you submit for AI grading, and the AI-generated feedback and score for each one.
  • A record of each practice sitting (date and pass/fail count per session), so you can see your own past scores.

Why we process this data

We only process your account data because you've explicitly agreed to it, by ticking the consent checkbox when you sign up. That checkbox specifically covers your written BIB answers being sent for AI grading, and your usage being included in our cookieless website analytics. You can withdraw this consent at any time by deleting your account (see "Your rights" below).

Who else sees this data

We use a small number of service providers to run this site. None of them use your data for anything beyond running the service:

  • Supabase — hosts our database and handles login (verifying your email and password).
  • Cloudflare — hosts the website and the backend service behind account deletion/export and AI grading, provides bot protection on the signup/login form, and provides privacy-respecting, cookieless website analytics.
  • Google (Gemini) — grades your written BIB answers and generates feedback, via Cloudflare's AI Gateway. This processing happens on Google's EU servers. Google does not receive your email address or account details, only the answer text and question being graded. Cloudflare's AI Gateway, which routes and briefly logs that same request on the way to Google, is held to the same limit: it only ever handles the answer-and-question text, never your email address or other account details.

We don't sell or share your data with anyone else, and we don't run ads.

How long we keep your data

We keep your account data for as long as your account stays active, with two automatic limits:

  • The literal text of a written BIB answer is deleted after 90 days. Nothing in the app reads it past the practice session it was submitted in. The AI-generated feedback and score for that answer are kept, so your past results remain visible.
  • If an account hasn't been logged into for 24 months, it and all its data are automatically and permanently deleted.

You don't have to wait for either of these. You can delete your account yourself at any time (see "Your rights" below).

We don't currently run backups of this data. If that changes in future, we'll update this section to say so.

Your rights

From your Account page, once logged in, you can at any time:

  • Export your data — download everything we hold about you as a file.
  • Delete your account — this permanently and immediately removes your account and all data linked to it. This cannot be undone.

Account suspension

If an account is misused, we can suspend it, which immediately blocks both new logins and any in-progress session. Suspending an account doesn't delete its data; you can still request export or deletion by contacting us (see "Contact" below).

Cookies and local storage

We don't use tracking or advertising cookies. We use your browser's local storage to keep you logged in and to remember quiz progress on the anonymous tools. Our website analytics (Cloudflare) doesn't use cookies or any other persistent identifier.

Changes to this policy

If what we collect or how we use it changes, we'll update this page and, for any change that affects your account specifically, ask for your consent again.
